72 Hours Urban Action

(part of Bat Yam Bianale 2010)

72 Hour Urban Action is the world's first real-time architecture competition, where 10 international teams have 3 days and 3 nights to design and build projects in public space in response to local needs.

The teams design, build, sleep and party on site to generate interventions in public space within an extreme deadline, a tight budget and limited space. 72 Hour Urban Action invites professionals and residents to become active agents of change, from the bottom-up, and to leave a lasting impact on the urban landscape.

The first 72 Hour Urban Action competition took place in September 2010 as part of the Bat-Yam Biennale of Landscape Urbanism. The Bat-Yam Biennale is a unique civic action model that encourages activist action in public space in collaboration with the local authorities.

Southern Gate - DZO team

Our Team

We were 4 students from Tel Aviv University and 9 Graduates from ENSA, Paris (Ecole nationale Superieure d'Architecture de Paris Belleville).

The Site -  Southern Gate

The edge of a multi-use street-space the incorporates resdifences, public intstitutions and businesses. From this point, the business district's industrial area spreads out.

The missiom

Express the qualities of the surroundings spaces in the intermediate space.

The Project

After research of the site, we've noticed that its a landing point for the residents and the random users to reach other parts of the city using the public transportation. but there is no actual bus station just a pole pointing out the bus stoping place, no bench, no shading.  this is why we decided to create bus stations that has sitting spots, shading, vagatation and lighting.

Another issue we wanted to adress was the fact that this is a transition point and we wanted to give a sense of changed atmosphere -  a concptual gate to the city. Ecole nationale Superieure d'Architecture de Paris Belleville
